Animated Screensavers Coming to Chromebooks

Your Chromebook has a screensaver feature that lets you show a slideshow of Google Photos or Google Art Gallery when it is idle. An upcoming Chrome OS feature adds more animated screensavers.

Lottie Animated ChromeOS Screensaver

The current Chrome OS screensaver collection is very limited. I use the Google Photos slide show. Another option is photos from the Google Art Gallery. However, there are no animated screensavers. Nothing with bright colors and fun animations.

This is changing.

A new Chrome OS experiment I spotted today talks about adding new animated screensavers from Lottie. Lottie is an online platform to create animations.

Here is the Chrome OS flag:

Launch the Lottie animated ChromeOS Screensaver: Launches the animated screensaver (as opposed to the existing photo slideshow) when entering ambient mode. Currently, there is only one animation theme available (feel the breeze).

That is a word description as far as Chrome flags go. However, it helps us understand this new feature better. We will soon have a lot more fun screensavers to choose from. That is the big news here.

Will they let us create our own animations on Lottie and use them? A new community-created set of screensavers maybe? That will be fun too.

What do you think of this new feature? Let me know in the comments section below. Stay tuned to Chrome Story here and on YouTube to receive more updates on this upcoming feature.
