How to Switch Your Chromebook to Beta Channel

If you are eager to test upcoming Chromebook features, you can switch your Chromebook to the Beta channel of Chrome OS. In this article, I will show you how to change the release channel of your Chromebook.

Chrome OS, the operating system used on your Chromebook has a few release channels. These release channels are called Stable, Beta, Dev, and Canary. By default, your Chromebook uses the Stable channel. This is the recommended version of Chrome OS everyone should be using.

Switching to the Beta Channel

To switch your Chromebook to the Beta channel of Chrome OS:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Chromebook.Chrome OS Settings App
  2. Click About ChromeOS.About ChromeOS
  3. Now click Additional Details.Additional Details
  4. Click the Change channel button.Change Channel Button
  5. Click the radio button to select the new channel.Select New Channel

Your Chromebook will now download the selected version of Chrome OS. The process might include a complete reset of your Chromebook.
