Google has been working on this feature for quite some time, here are the options available so far (in Chrome Canary):

Font type.

Font size.

Font size.

Theme.

Letter spacing.

It will also be possible to select a text and open it in the 'Read anything' panel.

As I said before, these are the options available at the moment, but Chromium developers plan to add other options. It's not clear when this feature will be released in the Stable version (there isn't even a flag to enable it yet).

ICYMI: Chrome will let you search for highlighted text in the Side Panel.

Chrome's password manager will have its own page.
