Where do you keep all your files? In Downloads? In Linux container? In GDrive? In SD/USB? Where should I keep my files to feel safe?

I know I should use an offline medium to be safe, but it's just a big hassle. It would be nice to keep my files on an online Chromebook. To be specific, I'm thinking of saving my lifetime's worth of data which includes passwords in a cryfs encrypted directory in the Linux container. What do you think about my plan? What do you do to keep your files safe on your Chromebook?
